在台灣，老鼠是極其聰明的「躲藏高手」，牠們偏好陰暗、狹小且隱蔽的空間。白天時，牠們通常躲在天花板、牆壁夾層、地下室，或是廚房櫥櫃深處、大型家電（如冰箱、瓦斯爐）後方的縫隙中休息。由於老鼠具有夜行性，入夜後才會沿著牆邊路徑活動，並留下糞便或油漬作為標記。

想要有效驅鼠，首先要找出這些祕密基地。室內最常見的躲藏點包括水槽下方、儲藏室的雜物堆與紙箱中，甚至是沙發與床底。若在牆角發現黑色米粒狀糞便或被啃咬的痕跡，就代表附近已有老鼠棲息。

針對這些藏身處，建議採取「先防禦、後清除」的策略。可以在老鼠頻繁出沒的通道放置驅鼠膏，或是使用評價極高的日本強效驅鼠膏，利用其強烈的氣味形成屏障，讓老鼠感到不適而搬離。這類強效驅鼠膏特別適合放在天花板或櫥櫃角落，作為日常維持的防線。
